Who were the appointed for eternal life?
A. Acts 13:14-50à
Paul went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day in Antioch. Acts 13:14
They were invited to speak to the people meeting in the synagogue. 13:15
Paul began to preach… Be it known unto you:
Through Jesus is proclaimed to you remission of sins. 13:38
By Jesus everyone that believed is justified from all things,
from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses. 13:39
Beware therefore, lest that come upon which spoken in the prophets.
Behold, you despisers, and wonder, and perish; for I work a work in your days,
a work which you shall in no wise believe, if one declare it to you. 13:40-41
Here are the appointed for eternal life! (Acts 13:42-44)
As they went out,
they besought that these words might be spoken to them the next Sabbath. 13:42
When the synagogue broke up,
many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas…
The next Sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.
Here are those destined to destruction!
The Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy,
they contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed. (Acts 13:45)
Here are the appointed for eternal life! Acts 13:48
The Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord;
and all who were appointed for eternal life believed. 13:48
The word of the Lord spread through the whole region! Acts 13:49
Here were those appointed for condemnation! (Acts 13:50)
The Jews incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the City.
They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas,
and expelled them from their region.
B. Acts 17:1-6à
Paul went to Thessalonica, for 3 Sabbath days he reasoned with them
from the scriptures explaining and proving Jesus is the Christ. 17:1-3
These were the appointed for eternal life! 17:4
Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas,
as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and not a few prominent women.
These were the appointed for destruction! 17:5
The Jews were jealous; so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace,
formed a mob and started a riot in the city.
They rushed to Jason’s house in search of Paul and Silas
in order to bring them out to the crowd….
They shouted:
These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here. 17:5-6
C. Acts 17:10-14
Paul went to Berea and preach the gospel in the Jewish synagogue. 17:10
These were the appointed for eternal life!
The Bereans were of more noble and open minded than the Thessalonians, for:
1. They received the message with great eagerness. Acts 17:11
2. They examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
3. Many of the Jews believed,
as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men. 17:12.
Again these were appointed for destruction!
The Jew in Thessalonica learned Paul was preaching the word of God in Berea
they went there too, agitating the crowds and stirring them up. Acts 17:13
D. Why were they appointed for destruction? 2 Cor.4:3-4
If our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that perish;
in whom the god of this world had blinded their mind!
(They listen to the god of the world!)
By choices they made in respond to the gospel they heard!
