Subject: Am I my brother's keeper? Gen.4:3-10

A. The scriptures:

In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD.

But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock.

The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor.

So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.

Then the Lord said to Cain: Why are you angry?  Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted?

But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it."

Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field.?

And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

Then the Lord said to Cain: Where is your brother Abel?

He replied: I don't know. Am I my brother's keeper?

The Lord said: What have you done?

Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground....

B. Reference scriptures:

1. By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did.

By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings.

And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead.(Heb.11:4)

How does Abel still speaks after he is dead?

2. Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder

him?  Because his own actions were evil and his brother's were righteous.(1 John 3:12)

3. Num 32:23 "But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the LORD; and you may be sure

that your sin will find you out.

Do you know how sin can find you out?

C. From the following scriptures, figure out God’s way to live in peace with each other in a family.

1. Ro 14:5 One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike.

Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.

2. Ro 14:6 He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord,

for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.

3. Ro 14:7 For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone.

4. Ro 14:8 If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord.  So, whether we live or die,

    we belong to the Lord.

5. Ro 14:9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the

    dead and the living.

May the Lord bless you and keep you always!
