Subject: What does it mean to walk by faith, not by sight? 2 Cor.5:7
A. This is how we know that we walk by faith, not by sight! 2 Cor.5:8-10
1. We, the living souls prefer to depart from the body and be with the Lord. 2 Cor.5:8
“We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”
This means we who believe Jesus is Lord are not afraid death of the body!
This by itself can save us lots of sleepless nights and lots of worries!
2. We, the living souls, make it our goal to please God while we live in the body. 5:9
“So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.”
3. Keenly aware at all time that--> For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every
one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
4. The advantage of walking by faith while living on earth is this--> 1 John 1:5-7
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no
darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not
live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
5. Participate in the work of the Lord in a church of Christ is a clear way to walk by faith in the light!
a. The church of Christ preaches and does things according to God’s own word! 1 Peter 4:11
b. The church of Christ is not about eating and drinking, it is about righteousness, peace and joy in
the Holy Spirit! Ro.14:17
c. There is no better way to live in the light to please God!
B. This is how we know that we walk by faith, not by sight! Ro,1:14-17
1. While living this life in the body we keep paying the debt of preaching the gospel to all people! 1:14
“I am debtor both to Greeks and to Barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.”
2. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you also that are in Rome. 1:15
3. For I am not ashamed of the gospel: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that
believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Ro,1:16
4. For therein is revealed a righteousness of God from faith unto faith: as it is written, But the righteous
shall live by faith. Ro.1:17
5. This is the righteousness of God from faith unto faith!
These are things we can’t see with physical eyes!
Whether we participate in the work of the Lord in a church of Christ preaching the gospel to the
world and back it up with our life by doing righteousness! This is what we can see!
C. This is how we know that we walk by faith, not by sight! James 2:17-19
1. In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by deeds, is dead. James 2:17
2. But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will
show you my faith by what I do.” James 2:18
3. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that-- and tremble. 2:19
D. Do you know why demons tremble but denomination people not tremble in the world?
1. Demons can see the invisible and what will happen to them at the end in the world!
2. Denomination people cannot! Until they see Jesus at the gate into the kingdom! Matt.7:21-23
3. The churches of Christ abide by what says in 1 Peter 4:11!
Denomination people are able to fool themselves until they are at the gate of the kingdom!
E. Why do some stumble once a while? Matt.14:25-31
1. During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 14:25
When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried
out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." 14:26-27
2. Peter said: Lord, if it's you, tell me to come to you on the water. 14:28
3. Jesus said: Come. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.
4. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" 14:30
5. Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him said: You of little faith, why did you doubt?
May the Lord bless you and keep you!
