Friday Bible Study. December 4, 2015. Subject: Leadership quality people in the Church.
A. Mt 20:25 Jesus called them together and said: You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over
them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.
Mt 20:26-28 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-- just as the Son of Man did not come to be served,
but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
B. Ac 6:1-4 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Grecian Jews among them
complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily
distribution of food. So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said: It would not be right
for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers, choose seven
men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility
over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.
This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit;
C. Titus 1:5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou should set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
Titus 1:6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
Titus 1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
Titus 1:8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
Titus 1:10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
Titus 1:11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.
D. 1Tim 3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
1Tim 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
1Tim 3:3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
1Tim 3:4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
1Tim 3:5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
1Tim 3:6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
1Tim 3:7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
1Tim 3:8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
1Tim 3:9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
1Tim 3:10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
1Tim 3:11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
1Tim 3:12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
1Tim 3:13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
E. Heb 13:7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.
Heb 13:17 Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.
