Subject: She gave all she had to live on!  Mark 12:44

A. Mark 12:41-44

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their

money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.  But a poor widow came

and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him,

Jesus said: I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.

They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything-- all she had to live on.

B. 1 King 17:8-16

1 King 17:8-9  Then the word of the LORD came to him: Go at once to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there. I have commanded a widow in that place to supply you with food.

1 King 17:10 So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, "Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?"

1 King 17:11 As she was going to get it, he called, "And bring me, please, a piece of bread."

1 King 17:12 "As surely as the LORD your God lives," she replied, "I don't have any bread-- only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make             a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it-- and die."

1 King 17:13-14 Elijah said to her, "Don't be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make

a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for             yourself and your son.  For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: `The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD gives rain on the land.'

1 King 17:15 She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family.

1 King 17:16 For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the LORD spoken by Elijah.

C. Ac 20:35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak,

remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: `It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

D. Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and  running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

E. 2 Cor.9:6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows

    generously will also reap generously.

2 Cor.9:7-8  Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under

compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that

in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

F. Mt 10:5-11 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: Do not go among the Gentiles

or enter any town of the Samaritans. Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. As you go, preach this

message: `The kingdom of heaven is near.'  Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have

leprosy, drive out demons.  Freely you have received, freely give.  Do not take along any gold or silver

or copper in your belts; take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the

worker is worth his keep.  Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there

and stay at his house until you leave.

G. Eph 4:28 He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful

with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.

H. Ac 20:32-35 "Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are  sanctified.  I have not coveted anyone's silver or gold or clothing.  You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: `It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

May the Lord bless you and keep you always!
