Characteristics of the church of Christ.
Main scripture for this study: Why do you call me, Lord, Lord and do not do what I say? Luke 6:46
Preface:
1. Others call Jesus, Lord, Lord and do not do what He says!
2. Start from the name of their church, you know it is not in the Bible!
3. Jesus is the Christ. Jesus said this is my church. Matt.16:18
Naturally, others will call this church, church of Christ! Matt.16:15-18
A. The church of Christ is true to what says in the Bible.
1. Preach words from the mouth of God. 1 Peter 4:11
2. Preach with the mind of Christ. 1 Cor.2:16
3. Serve according to the strength which God provides! 1 Peter 4:11
4. In all thing we do, God be glorified through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 4:11
5. Glory and dominion belong to God forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:11
6. In the church of Christ, Jesus is Lord and Christ! Acts 2:36
7. People in the church of Christ are sanctified by the truth, Gods word. John 17:17
8. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2Tim.3:16-17
9. Christ has all authority in heaven and on earth. Matt.28:18
All believers are commanded to obey what says in the Bible. Matt.28:20
10. This is why you often hear, what does the Bible say?
B. Rightly dividing God’s words. 2Tim.2:15
1. Distort the meaning of the word is destined to perish. 2 Peter 3:16
2. Different from what says in the Bible is heresy! Acts 24:14
Heresy is destined to perish with use. Col.2:22
3. Worship different to what says in the Bible is superstition. Acts 17:22
Superstition is destined to perish with use. Col.2:22
4. Preach a different gospel will be condemned! Gal.1:8
5. Denomination is warped, sinful and self-condemned. Titus 3:10-11
C. Church of Christ is a group of pure heart people meeting in worship to God. Heb.10:25-29
1. The church of Christ worship according to what says in the Bible.
a. Offer sacrifice of praising with fruit of the lips. Heb.13:15.
b. Weekly contribution from believers on Sunday worship. 1 Cor.16:2, Phil.4:15-19
c. Offering prayers and Bible teaching to so the saints can grow in the Lord! Acts 2:42.
d. Eating the Lord’s supper on Sunday worship. Acts 20:7
2. The church of Christ seek to flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2Tim.2:22
3. Fashioned our life according to what God says, not what the world says! Romans 12:1-2
Be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, and ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
4. Church of Christ does not walk in the counsel of the wicked. Ps.1:1
5. Church of Christ does not stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. Ps.1:1
6. Church of Christ delights in the law of Christ… Ps.1:2
7. Church of Christ is like a tree planted by the streams of water… Ps.1:3
8. Wicked people will not last long in the church of Christ! Ps.1:4-5
9. In the church of Christ God protect the righteous and punish the wicked. Ps.1:6
D. Church of Christ is able to practice Jude 1:3 and 1 Tim.6:12
1. Earnestly defend the truth once delivered to the saints. Jude 1:3
2. Fight the good fight of faith. 1Tim.6:12
3. Hold on to the eternal life granted to them! 1Tim.6:12
