Where is eternal life?
Preface:
1. Eternal life is for the soul not the flesh!
Just as man is destined to die once and after that to face judgment. Heb.9:27
2. All must know we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
3. All must know: Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
a. Eternal life is the gift of God. b. Eternal life is in Christ Jesus.
A. Main scriptures for this study: John 3:1-16
1. Nicodemus is a member of the Jewish ruling council. Jn.3:1
Nicodemus is a member of the religious ruling council, not Roman government official.
2. He came to Jesus at night to ask this question!
What must I do to enter the kingdom of God to have eternal life?
This man knew eternal life is in the kingdom of God!
Jesus guided him the steps to enter the kingdom of God to have eternal life.
3. Jesus replied: John 3:3 correct translation.
Unless one is born over again from above cannot partake eternal life in the kingdom of God. John 3:3
4. NIV translation: In reply Jesus declared:
I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. John 3:3
In the original Greek text the word ‘see’ means perceive, not look, nor behold!
5. First, you must be born over again from above to understand this teaching!
B. Apostle Paul explained this for us! 2Tim.1:9-10
God has saved us and called us to a holy life-- not because of anything we have done but because of
his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed
death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 2Tim.1:9-10
1. It is God has saved us and called us to a holy life!
2. Not because of anything we have done!
3. It is because of his own purpose and grace!
4. This grace given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.
5. It has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savor, Christ Jesus through the gospel!
C. How can one believe Jesus is the Christ?
1. Jesus declared: Unless you believe that I am the Christ, you will die in your sins. John 8:24
2. The scriptures revealed it this way! Matt.16:13-18
3. When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples:
Who do people say the Son of Man is? Matt.16:13
4. They replied,: Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of
the prophets. Matt.16:14
5. Jesus asked: But what about you? Who do you say I am? Matt.16:15
6. Peter answered: You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Matt.16:16
7. Jesus replied: Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah,
for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. Matt.16:17
8. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades
will not overcome it. Matt.16:18
9. That were the churches of Christ in Judea! Gal.1:22 RSV
D. Conclusion: John 3:5
1. Jesus answered: No one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit!
2. Peter explained: Believe Jesus is Lord and Christ, repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus
Christ for forgiveness of your sins and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:36-38
3. The Lord added these saved people into the church of Christ. Acts 2:47 KJV
4. Eternal life is in the church of Christ, the kingdom of God.
