Retreat Sermon 2017!
Be ye perfect as the Father in heaven is perfect!
A. It is humanly impossible?
Because all men have sinned and fall short of the glory of God! Ro.3:23
1. Such as à It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter
the kingdom of God. Mk.10:25
All you need to see is how and how much they offer their sacrifice of giving to the church!
2. The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other: Who then can be saved? Mk.10:26
3. Jesus looked at them and said:
With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God. Mk.10:27
4. Therefore, we have to find God's way!
B. God’s way is hidden with Christ in God! Col.3:1-5
1. Since, then, you have been raised with Christ,
set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Col.3:1
2. Since you have been raised with Christ! Col.3:1
3. For you died with Christ! Col.3:3
4. How that you have been raised with Christ and died with Christ? Romans 6:3-4
Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that,
just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
5. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
6. Jesus said: I and the Father are one. John 10:30
C. What kinds of people qualify to be baptized into Christ? Acts 2:36-38
1. Preaching the word: Therefore let all Israel be assured of this:
God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. Acts 2:36
2. When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles:
Brothers, what shall we do? Acts 2:37
3. Peter replied: Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38
D. Evidence of one hidden with Christ in God.
1. In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, \
and to some extent I believe it. 1Cor.11:18
2. ARE YOU IN WORSHIP ON SUNDAY IN THE CHURCHE OF CHRIST? Heb.10:25-29
Heb.10:24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
Heb.10:25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage
one another-- and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Heb.10:26-27 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth,
no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that
will consume the enemies of God.
Heb.10:28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or
three witnesses.
Heb.10:29 How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled
the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that
sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?
E. Appear with Christ in glory!
1. Col.3:4-5
When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Col.3:4
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature:
sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Col.3:5
2. Ro 13:13-14
Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and
wantonness, not in strife and envying.
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
3. Gal 5:16-17
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
For the flesh lust against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh:
and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
4. Col 2:2-4
My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the
full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely,
Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that
no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.
5. 1Tim.5:20-25
Those who sin are to be rebuked publicly, so that the others may take warning.
I charge you, in the sight of God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, to keep these instructions
without partiality, and to do nothing out of favoritism.
Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, and do not share in the sins of others.
Keep yourself pure.
Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.
The sins of some men are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others
trail behind them.
In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are not cannot be hidden.
6. Romans 13:14
Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ,
and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
7. James 1:22
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Conclusion: Gal.5:16
This I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
In today’s expression:
Which excite you more? Is it things with the world or things with the church?
No one can deceive himself! If you can wake up 3 a.m. to do things in the world!
You must always be able to be in church early enough to help do things in the church!
You will cancel whatever activities in conflict with activities with the church!
