Light and Darkness
John 8:1212 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

1. There are two types of lights, physical light and spiritual light, people can see one, or both, or neither of them. God created both physical light and the spiritual light.
Genesis 1:3-5 3And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

2. What is the spiritual light?
Ephesians 5:9 for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth.

In the opposite, sin is the darkness of our soul.
John 3:19-21 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

3. Without physical light people, cannot see, they get lost, don’t have hope, full of fear. Without spiritual light, it is the same condition.
Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.

Isaiah 59:9-10 9 So justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us. We look for light, but all is darkness; for brightness, but we walk in deep shadows. 10 Like the blind we grope along the wall, feeling our way like people without eyes. At midday we stumble as if it were twilight; among the strong, we are like the dead.

4. The world is full of darkness because everybody has sin.
God created Adam & Eva, but they did not obey God’s command and sinned against God.
Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

5. The purpose that Jesus came to this world is show us the light of goodness, righteousness and truth, so we can realize our sin.
John 9:5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."

Jesus use his action to show us the light.
6. The result of spirit darkness.
Romans 5:12 12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned

7. Follow Jesus can let us get light.

8. It is a war between darkness and light, be Jesus have overcome the darkness
How to realize sin? Sinner always want to hide, and always don’t want people know, Adam and Eva sinned and they try to hide from God.
Why Pharisees want to kill Jesus, they are in darkness, they are hypocrite, but Jesus light let people see their sin, and their heart is hard. And they believe Jesus is just another prophet, they don’t believe that Jesus is the Christ.
John 3:19-20 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.

Ephesians 4:17-18 17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.

9. What should we do
For people that were not baptized yet, Commit our sin and repent, so your heart will be open to accept God’s wisdom.
Matthew 3:2 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

For people that have been baptized, need to act like Jesus
Matthew 3:8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.

1 John 1:6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.

Matthew 5:14-15 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

2 Corinthians 6:14 14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

10. If we walk with Jesus in the light
1 John 1:7 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all[a] sin.

John 12:36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light.
