A. How can I, except someone shall guide me? (Acts 8:30-31)
A worshiper of God, the Ethiopian Eunuch, in charge of the Queen’s
treasure, was reading the book of Isaiah. Philip the evangelist asked him:
Do you understand what you are reading? (Acts 8:30)
This was his answer--> How can I, except someone shall guide me? (Ac.8:31)
For the last 1500 years or so, many religious “experts” were using these
scriptures to fool so many people in the world!
B. Different claims:
1. Some claim they had God given power to understand!
Some say that they inherited Apostle Peter’s key to unlock the wisdom in
the Bible. Therefore, they are the only ones who can understand!
Therefore, none other may read the Bible! It is for their own good!
For if they read it, they will misunderstand and end up in hell!
2. Some claim they were filled with the Holy Spirit, therefore, they can
understand the truth in the Bible!
3. Some claim they have direct inspiration from God! Therefore, they are
the ones who can guide you! There are lots of others claims!
C. We must know only the Spirit of God can guide you! (1 Cor.2:10-13)
1. But unto us God revealed (them) through the Spirit: for the Spirit
searches all things, yea, the deep things of God. For who among men know
the things of a man, save the spirit of the man, which is in him?
even so the things of God none know, save the Spirit of God. But we
received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is from God;
that we might know the things that were freely given to us of God Which
things also we speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches, but which
the Spirit teaches…
2. Jn.16:12-14--> I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot
bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall
guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but
what things whatsoever he shall hear, (these) shall he speak: and he
shall declare unto you the things that are to come. He shall glorify
me: for he shall take of mine, and shall declare (it) unto you.
D. John 8:31-32 make it clear!
“Jesus therefore said to those Jews that had believed him, if ye abide in
my word, (then) are ye truly my disciples; and ye shall know the truth, and
the truth shall make you free.” It is in Jesus’ own words!
Here we have a clear path to understand God’s words in the Bible!
Hear-->having believed-->abide in God’s words-->be true disciples of Christ-->
you will know the truth-->and the truth will free you.
E. Bible ways to know the truth in the Bible!
1. The Bible are written for people to understand! John 20:30-31
Many other signs therefore did Jesus in the presence of the disciples,
which are not written in this book: but these are written, that ye may
believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye
may have life in his name. (Remember this is truth from God!)
2. 1 Cor.2:1-16--> … God reveals to us through the Spirit: for the Spirit
of God knows the things about God… we have the mind of Christ!
3. 1 Peter 2:1-2--> Putting away therefore all wickedness, and all guile,
and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speech as newborn babes, long
for the spiritual milk which is without guile, that ye may grow thereby
unto salvation.
4. 2 Peter 1:3-11--> His divine power has given us everything we need for
life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own
glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and
precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the
divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil
desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith
courage; and to courage, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and
to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to
godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if
you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you
from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord
Jesus Christ. … For if you do these things, you will never fall, and the
door into the eternal kingdom will be open wide for you!
5. Yes from Acts 2:1-42 Holy Spirit baptism helped them to know!
Make no mistake about this it was to fulfill Joel 2:28-32!
It was for the dull headed (Matt.15:16) disciples to know all the
truth in the New Testament Bible! (Who can understand this statement?)
6. In connection with Acts chapter 2 and Joel 2:32 apostle Paul explain
it this way in Ro.10:13-14--> for, Whosoever shall call upon the name
of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom
they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him whom they
have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how
shall they preach, except they be sent? even as it is written, How
beautiful are the feet of them that bring glad tidings of good things!
But they did not all hearken to the glad tidings. For Isaiah said, the
Lord, who hath believed our report? So belief (cometh) of hearing, and
hearing by the word of Christ.
F. How do people of our days understand the truth in the Bible?
1. 1 Jn.5:19-20--> We know that we are of God, and the whole world lie
in the evil one. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath
given us an understanding, that we know him that is true, and we are
in him that is true, (even) in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true
God, and eternal life.
2. Jn.16:12-14--> I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot
bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall
guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but
whatsoever things he shall hear, (these) shall he speak: and he shall
declare unto you the things that are to come. He shall glorify me: for
he shall take of mine, and shall declare (it) unto you.
4. 1 Cor.1:18-24--> For the word of the cross is to them that perish
foolishness; but unto us who are saved it is the power of God. For it
is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment
of the discerning will I bring to nought. Where is the wise man? Where
is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made
foolish the wisdom of the world? For seeing that in the wisdom of God
the world through its wisdom knew not God, it was God's good pleasure
through the foolishness of the preaching to save them that believe.
Seeing that Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom: but we
preach Christ crucified, unto Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles
foolishness; but unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ
the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
5. 1 Jn.5:7 And it is the Spirit that bear witness, because the Spirit is
the truth. Jn.6:63 It is the spirit that give life; the flesh profit
nothing: the words that I have spoken unto you are spirit and life.
May the Lord bless you and keep you!
