Salvation of the soul!
A. This was how man created: God formed man of the dust of the ground,
and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Gen.2:7
1. Formed man of the dust is the body.
2. Breathed into his nostrils the breath of life is the spirit. And man became a living soul.
B. Thus each man has 3 lives! 1Thes.5:23
And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body
be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Man’s three lives are spirit and soul and body.
C. The function of the spirit! James 2:26
1. Man’s body without the spirit is dead even so faith without works is dead.
Man is a living soul living in a live body!
2. At the dead of the body this is what will happen! Ecc.12:7
The dust (body) returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
D. When the body died this what will happen to the soul! Luke 16:22-
1. The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s bosom. Lk.16:22
From item C we know the beggar’s body returns to dust, his spirit returns to God who gave it!
2. His soul was carried to Abraham’s bosom by the angels.
3. In Luke 23:43 Abraham’s body was described as paradise.
E. When the rich man’s body died where goes his soul? Luke 16:22-23
1. The rich man also died and was buried. Luke 16:22
2. From Item C we know the rich man’s body returns to dust, was buried!
3. The rich man’s spirit returns to God who gave it!
4. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away,
with the beggar Lazarus at his side. Luke 16:23
5. From item C we know it was his soul in Hades, where he was in torment!
F. What will all soul do in Hades? Luke 16:24-30
1. He begged: Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger
in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire. Luke 16:24
2. Yes, it was his turn to beg! He beg for only a drop of water to cool his tongue!
3. Abraham replied: Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things,
while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. Lk.16:25
4. He answered: Then I beg you, father send Lazarus to my father’s house, for I have 5 brothers.
Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment! Luke 16:27-28
*** Please close your eyes and meditate a little!
See, if you can hear your ancestor’s begging voice from Hades!
5. Abraham replied: They have Moses and the prophets, let them listen to them. Luke 16:29
6. He said: No, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will listen. 16:30
7. Abraham said to him: If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not listen even
if one rise from the dead. Luke 16:31
G. The eternal dwelling place for the soul is hell, not Hades! Rev.20:13-15
1. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them,
and each person was judged according to what he had done. Rev.20:13
2. Here we see, each soul was judged according to what he had done!
3. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire.
The lake of fire is the second death. Rev.20:14
5. If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
H. Conclusion:
1. Does anyone realize that I skipped Luke 16:26?
2. This verse tells us, salvation for the soul is when the body lives!
3. I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation. 2Cor.6:2
