Why do all say yes?! John 5:39-40
A. Main scriptures for this study: John 5:39-40
You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life.
These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
B. Understand the meaning of the scriptures!
1. Jesus said those Jews had the right idea by the Scriptures they can possess eternal life.
2. The scriptures taught them to come to Jesus to have life!
3. Eternal life is a gift from God given in Christ Jesus! Romans 6:23.
4. Study the Scriptures so people may know how to get into Christ to have eternal life. Gal.3:7
5. But Jesus said: Yet you refuse to come to me to have life!
6. Jesus used only the word life! 2222. Jesus did not use eternal life!
7. This word life means living a life that is active, vigorous and devoted to God!
8. To have eternal life one must live a live that is active, vigorous and devoted to God!
C. Fatal mistake in all human history-->
Desire the benefit but refuse to put up what takes to possess!
1. They want to be disciples of Jesus but they refuse to abide in Jesus’ teaching! John 8:31-32
2. They wanted to be free from sins but they refuse to do what Jesus said! John 8:31-32
3. They like to call Jesus Lord, Lord, but refuse to do what he said! Luke 6:46
4. Jesus said, these kinds of people are all children of the devil. John 8:44
5. Jesus said, these kinds of people do not believe Jesus! John 8:45
6. Thus these peoples' believe Jesus is a lie by itself!
D. The Lord is my helper. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me!
1. May it be known to all human!
2. To have the privilege of saying this, one must first do verse 4 and 5!
3. The benefit in Heb.13:6 come after verse 4 and 5!
4. To have the benefit of verse 6, one must stay free from immorality and the love of money!
5. Immorality comes with lots of evils. The love of money is the root of all evil! 1Tim.6:10
E. What is being free from sins mean?! Romans 6:20-23
1. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. Ro.6:20
2. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of?
Those things result in death! Ro.6:21
3. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God,
the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. Ro.6:22
4. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Ro.6:23
F. Biblical rule one!
1. Even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: He who doesn’t work, let him not eat. 2Thes.3:10
2. For we hear of some that walk among you disorderly, that work not at all, but are busybodies. 3:11
3. Now them that are such we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ,
that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. 2Thes.3:12
G. Biblical rule two! Gal.6:6-8
1. Let him that is taught in the word communicate to him that teaches in all good things. Gal.6:6
2. Be not deceived: God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap. Gal.6:7
3. For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption.
But he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Gal.6:8
H. Conclusion: Believe Jesus according to the Bible?
1. Jesus made it clear to have eternal life one must go to him to have life! John 5:39-40
2. This means living a life in Christ that is active, vigorous and devoted to God!
3. How do people come to Christ to have life? By being a part of the church of Christ!
4. Not in the church of Christ! You can’t believe Jesus according to the Bible!
Thus you cannot have eternal life!
