The beginning of the church of Christ. Acts 2:1-42

Jesus said: On this rock I will build my church. And the gates of Hades will not overcome it.Mtt.16:18

A. This is how it started! Acts 2:10-11

1. When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Acts 2:1

    a. The day of Pentecost is Sunday. It is the 50th day after Jesus’ resurrection.

    b. They were all together in one place. (This ‘they’ were Jesus’ followers.)

2. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house

    where they were sitting. Acts 2:2

3. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.Ac.2:3

4. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and

    began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Ac.2:4

5. Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. Acts 2:5

6. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment,

    because each one heard them speaking in his own language. Acts 2:6

7. Utterly amazed, they asked: Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? Acts 2:7

    Galileans speaking in each listener’s own language! Acts 2:7

8. Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? Acts 2:8

    Here it is Galileans speaking in listener’s native language! 

B. This is how others attracted to join?

1. Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another: What does this mean? Acts 2:12

2. Some, however, made fun of them and said: They have had too much wine. Acts 2:13

C. Peter stood up to explain! Acts 2:14-38

1. Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you:

    Listen carefully to what I say. Acts 2:14

2. These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! Acts 2:15

3. The lasts days are here begin to fulfill as said by our prophets! Acts 2:16

4. In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Acts 2:17

5. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17

6. At that time I will pour out my Spirit to my servants, men and women, and they will prophesy. Acts 2:18 

D. During these last days these will happen: Acts 2:19-20

1. I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. Acts 2:19

    The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.

    Acts 2:20

2. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Acts 2:21

    Apostle Paul explained: From now on no one will be saved by obeying the law of Moses! Ro.3:20. 10:4

3. Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles,

    wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. Acts 2:22

4. This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help

    of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. Acts 2:23

5. God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. Acts 2:32

6. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and

    has poured out what you now see and hear. Acts 2:33

E. This how you are to be save by calling on the name of the Lord! Acts 2:36-42

1. God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. Acts 2:36

2. When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles:  

    Brothers, what shall we do? Acts 2:37

3. Peter replied: Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the

    forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38

4. Those accepted his message were baptized, and about 3000 were added to the church. Acts 2:41

5. They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread

    and to prayer. Acts 2:42
