Believe Jesus according to the Bible? 4
Believe Jesus and water baptism!
A. Jesus’ command after resurrection and before ascension!
He said to them: Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes
and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Mk.16:15-16
*** Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.
B. Apostle Peter carried out Jesus’ command! Acts 2:36-38
1. Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus,
whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ. Acts 2:36
2. When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles:
Brothers, what shall we do? Acts 2:37
3. Peter replied: Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ
for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38
***Sins are forgiven at time of being baptized!
C. Philip the evangelist shows us another example! Acts 8:35-38
1. Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. Ac.8:35
2. As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said:
Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized? Ac.8:36
3. Philip said: If you believe with all your heart, you may.
And he answered and said: I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Ac.8:37
4. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they both went down into the water,
both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. Ac.8:38
D. Apostle Paul’s personal testimony! Acts 22:16
Ananias said to him: Now why are you waiting for?
Get up, calling on His name and be baptized to wash away your sins! Ac.22:16
E. Apostle Peter repeated this in his writing! 1 Peter 3:21
Water baptism is not a putting away the filth of the flesh!
Water baptism is so that you may have a clear conscience toward God!
***Clear conscience is a conscience without sins.
F. Apostle Paul reinforced it this way! Acts 19:1-5
1. And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth,
Paul having passed through the upper country came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples. Ac.19:1
2. He said unto them: Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?
And they: No, we did not so much as hear whether the Holy Spirit was (given). Ac.19:2
3. And he said: Into what then were you baptized?
And they said: Into John's baptism. Ac.19:3
4. And Paul said: John baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that
they should believe on him that should come after him, that is, on Jesus. Ac.19:4
5. And when they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. Acts 19:5
***Believe Jesus and baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus is the same thing!
G. Why did the 12 disciples in Ephesus have to be baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus?
1. They had been baptized into the baptism of John!
2. Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus;
and he was mighty in the scriptures. Acts 18:24
3. This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and
taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, knowing only the baptism of John: Acts 18:25
*** Everything about him is wonderful except one thing--> knowing only the baptism of John!
Baptism of John is for forgiveness of sins! Why be baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus?
Because believe Jesus completed at being baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus! Ac.16:30-34
4. The preacher, Apollos had to be taught more accurately and made to change! Ac.18:26-28
