A. A farmer went out to sow his seed. Lk.8:5-15
1. As he sows his seed some fell along the path. It was trampled on. The birds ate it up. Lk.8:5
2. Some fell on rock. When it came up the plants withered because they had no moisture. Lk.8:6
3. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. Lk.8:7
4. Still other seed fell on good soil.
It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown. Lk.8:8
5. This is the meaning of the parable. The seed is the word of God. Lk.8:11
6. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word
from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Lk.8:12
7. Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root.
They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. Lk.8:13
8. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are
choked by life's worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. Lk.8:14
9. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it,
and by persevering produce a crop. Lk.8:15
B. I have come not to abolish the Law or the Prophets! Matt.5:17-23
1. Jesus said: Do to think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets.
I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Matt.5:17
2. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of
a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Matt.5:18
3. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will
be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will
be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matt.5:19
4. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the
law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. Matt.5:20
5. You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, `Do not murder, and anyone who murders
will be subject to judgment.' Matt.5:21
6. But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Matt.5:22
7. You have heard that it was said, `Do not commit adultery.' Matt.5:27
8. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her
in his heart. Matt.5:28
9. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part
of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. Matt.5:29
10. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away.
It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell. Matt.5:30
11. It has been said: Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.' Matt.5:31
12. But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for fornication, causes her to become an
adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery. Matt.5:32
C. Watch out for false prophets. Matt.7:15-20
1. Watch out for false prophets.
They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. Matt.7:15
2. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles?
3. Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. Matt.7:17
4. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Matt.7:18
5. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Matt.7:19
6. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. Matt.7:20
D. Jesus continued to describe their sheep clothing! Matt.7:21-23
7. Not everyone who says to me, `Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven,
but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Matt.7:21
8. Many will say to me on that day: Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name,
and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles? Matt.7:22
9. Then I will tell them plainly: I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers! Matt.7:23
