Main Scripture for this study: Matt.5:3, 5:10-15
A. Preface:
1. There are 8 blessed in this section of Scriptures.
2. Begin with blessed are the poor in the spirit.
End with blessed are those persecuted for righteousness!
3. Yes, the kingdom of heaven belongs to these kinds of people!
B. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matt.5:3
1. We know what is the kingdom of heaven!
2. Kingdom of heaven while on earth is the church of Christ.
3. Where Christ has all authorities on earth and in heaven. Matt.28:18
4. Where we preach the very words from the mouth of God. 1 Peter 4:11
5. Where we serve with the strength given by God! 1 Peter 4:11
6. Where all the glory belongs to God forever! 1Peter 4:11
7. Kingdom of heaven in heaven is eternal life with God!
C. But what does poor in spirit mean?
1. See what I found!
It means one’s soul craves for divine knowledge!
It means one’s soul has strong desire for the truth in the New Testament Bible!
2. Yes, poor means destitute!
But it is about recognizing destitute in knowledge of the Bible!
3. This in turn brings forth strong desire for the truth in the Bible!
4. At this, the Chinese translation is closer to the original text!
The Chinese rendition says knowing the emptiness in the soul on Bible truth!
5. This in turn brings forth strong desire for what says in the Bible!
6. Now we have the completed meaning of Matt.5:3!
Blessed are those who crave for divine knowledge, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven!
7. With divine knowledge within the soul, this person can enjoy life in the kingdom of heaven!
D. Imagine one has a house filled up with junk!
1. One day he discovers new things and craves to have them!
2. He has to remove what is in the house to make room for the new item!
3. One by one he removes the old and replaces in its place the new ones!
4. This is what 1 Peter 2:1-2 describe!
Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every
kind.
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your
salvation.
E. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.Mtt.5:10
1. These are people determined to live and do things according to what Bible says!
2. Please be sure to know, believe Jesus must do what Jesus said!
3. Believe Jesus but do not do what Jesus said. Jesus will say they belong to Satan. Jn.8:31-44
F. Jesus further explains! Matt.5:11-15
1. Blessed are you when people insult you,
persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Matt.5:11
2. Now you know what we went through all these years insist preach and do what Bible says!
3. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they
persecuted the prophets who were before you. Matt.5:12
Now you know why we enjoy working in the kingdom of heaven!
4. You are the salt of the earth.
But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?
It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. Matt.5:13
5. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Matt.5:14
6. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.
Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. Matt.5:15
7. Now you know why we help the good ones and expose the evil ones!
