In God's judgment piety that is pure and undefiled is to visit the orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
A. Show piety at home!
1. But if any widow hath children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety towards their
own family, and to requite their parents: for this is acceptable in the sight of God. 1Tim.5:4
2. If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family,
he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1Tim.5:8
B. Show piety anywhere!
1. A man was robbed and leaved half dead on the road. Lk.10:30
2. A priest came by did not help! Lk.10:31
3. A Levite came by did not help! Lk.10:32
4. A Samaritan came by bound his wounds brought him to an inn took care of him. Lk.10:33-35
C. Piety that bring damnation!
1. In his teaching he said: Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and (to have)
salutations in the marketplaces, and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts:
They that devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers;
these shall receive greater condemnation. Mk.12:38-40
2. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!
For ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte;
and when he is become so, ye make him twofold more a son of hell than yourselves. Matt.23:15
3. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye tithe mint and anise and cummin,
and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith:
but these ye ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone. Matt.23:23
4. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name,
and by thy name cast out demons, and by thy name do many mighty works? Matt.7:22-23
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
5. A denomination man after a first and second admonition refuse.
You are sure such person is warped, sinned, self-condemned. Titus 3:10-11
D. The Lord's personal blessed piety!
1. He sat down over against the treasury, and beheld how the multitude cast money into the treasury:
and many that were rich cast in much. Mk.12:41
2. There came a poor widow, and she cast in two coins, which make a farthing. Mk.12:42
He called unto him his disciples, and said unto them: Verily I say unto you,
This poor widow cast in more than all they that are casting into the treasury: Mk.12:43
3. For they all did cast in of their superfluity;
but she of her want did cast in all that she had, (even) all her living. Mk.12:44
5. Ye Philippians, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia,
no church had fellowship with me in the matter of giving and receiving but ye only.
For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my need. Phil.4:15-16
6. Not that I seek for the gift; but I seek for the fruit that increases to your account. Phil.4:17
7. But I have all things, and abound: I am filled, having received from Epaphroditus the things
from you, and odor of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well-pleasing to God. Phil.4:18
8. My God shall supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Phil.4:19
E. Piety that save your souls!
1. The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing.
The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. Jn.6:63
2. Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all
readiness of the mind, examining the Scriptures daily, whether these things were so. Ac.17:11
3. As newborn babies, long for pure spiritual milk, so you can in your salvation. 1Peter 2:2
