This God loves this one church!
A. Today my sermon subject is this God loves this one church!
Yes, last Sunday, Feb., 15, 2009 I preached a lesson from American currency.
We learned American put their trust in the God described in the Bible.
Jesus declared: of all the commandments, the most important one is this à
“The Lord our God, he is one.”
The man who heard it understood and repeated what Jesus said, by sayingà
Sir, you said there is one God, you are right. Besides this God there is no other God. (Mark 12:28-29)
B. Today we will study this one God loves this one church!
This God loves this one church that he became flesh and dwelt among us
so he can shed his blood to purchase her.
a. John 1:1à In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
b. John 1:14à And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us …
c. Acts 20:28à Take heed unto yourselves, and to all the flock,
in which the Holy Spirit hath made you bishops, to feed the church of Christ
which he purchased with his own blood.
C. This God loves only this one church!
1. He made sure people understand this very important aspect!
And he said so in Eph. 4:4à There is one body and one Spirit--
just as you were called to one hope when you were called.
2. By making the relationship between Christ and the church asàCol.1:18à
And he is the head of the body, the church…
One head goes with one body. No one can misunderstand this one!
The body lives as long as it is connected to the head!
The body can’t never misconnected to any other head!
3. By calling this one church as the wife of Christ. Rev.21:9
D. This God demands that this one church be a pure virgin!
2 Cor.11:2-4à I promised you to one husband, to Christ,
so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.
But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning,
your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached,
or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received,
or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.
***What does a pure virgin mean?*** Let the scripture explain itself!
Don’t let teaching that is not in the Bible creeps into ones mind!
Please study 2 Cor.11:1-4 carefully and figure it out for yourself!
This is why Rev.17:1-2 and 19:1-2 described a church this way!
1. Come, I’ll show you the punishment of the great whore, who sits on many waters.
With her the kings of the earth committed adultery and the inhabitant of the earth
were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.
2. God condemned the great whore who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
My conclusion from the study of these scriptures, this what I understand.
For a church to accept teachings other than what is in the Bible
is like a woman sleeping with other men besides her own husband!
E. How much God loves this one church? Eph.5:25-33
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy,
cleaning her by the washing with water through the word,
and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish,
but holy and blameless. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies.
He who loves his wife loves himself….
