The gospel is preached to the poor!

The gospel is preached to the poor! Matt.11:5

A. Yes, Jesus said so!

1. Jesus replied: Go back and report to John what you hear and see. Matt.11:4

2. The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear,

the dead are raised, and the gospel is preached to the poor. Matt.11:5

3. Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others,

and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. Matt.15:30

4. Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by evil

spirits, and all of them were healed. Ac.5:16

B. How did they get money for the ministry?

1. Ask: If each give as you do!  Do we have enough money to pay for utilities?

2. Jesus said: For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost! Lk.19:10

3. There were no needy persons among them.

For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales

and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need. Ac.4:34-35

4. Barnabas sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles' feet. Ac.4:36-37

5. Lydia, a rich lady was converted! Ac.16:13-15

    a. On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer.

We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there. Ac.16:13

    b. One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira,

who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message. Ac.16:14

    c. When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. "If you consider

me a believer in the Lord," she said, "come and stay at my house."  And she persuaded us. Ac.16:15

6. Crispus, the synagogue ruler, and his entire household believed in the Lord;

and many of the Corinthians who heard him believed and were baptized. Ac.18:8

7. Brothers, think of what you were when you were called.  Not many of you were wise by human standards;

not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 1Cor.1:26

8. It takes Jesus personal work to convert Saul!  Acts chapter 9 and 22!

9. Philemon a man rich enough to own slaves converted! Philem.1:19

I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand. I will pay it back-- not to mention that you owe me your very self.

C. Wealthy people were converted! Lk.19:1-10

Even at Jesus’ time rich people are to be converted! Lk.19:1-10

1. Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 19:1

2. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 19:2

3. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. 19:3

4. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. 19:4

5. When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately.

I must stay at your house today. 19:5

6. So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. 19:6

7. All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a `sinner.'" 19:7

8. But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord!  Here and now I give half of my possessions

to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." 19:8

9. Jesus said to him: Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.19:9

10. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost. 19:10
