Believe Jesus? What does it mean? 3
A. Jesus’ example! Phil.2:3-11
1. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory;
but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Phil.2:3
2. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Phil.2:4
3. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Phil.2:5
4. Christ Jesus, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: Phil.2:5
5. But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant,
and was made in the likeness of men. Phil.2:7
6. And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself,
and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Phil.2:8
7. Wherefore God also has highly exalted him,
and given him a name which is above every name. Phil.2:9
8. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven,
and things in earth, and things under the earth. Phil.2:10
9. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil.2:11
B. The Lord’s work comes before eating food! Jn.4:31-34
1. Meanwhile his disciples urged him: Rabbi, eat something. Jn.4:31
2. But he said to them: I have food to eat that you know nothing about. Jn.4:32
3. Then his disciples said to each other: Could someone have brought him food? Jn.4:33
4. Jesus said: My food, is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. Jn.4:34
5. In man’s world food is first in their lives!
C. No threat can prevent me from doing the Lord’s work! Lk.13:31-35
1. At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him:
Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you. Lk.13:31
2. He replied: Go tell that fox, `I will drive out demons and heal people today and tomorrow,
and on the third day I will reach my goal.' Lk.13:32
3. In any case, I must keep going today and tomorrow and the next day—
for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem! Lk.13:33
4. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you,
how often I have longed to gather your children together,
as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! Lk.13:34
5. Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say:
`Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.' Lk.13:35
D. Die to obey God’s word!
1. Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed:
My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will. Matt.26:39
2. He went away a second time and prayed:
My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may thy will be done. Matt.26:40
3. So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. Matt.26:44
E. Apostle Paul shows us how!
1. To his younger generation he said these followings! 2Tim.4:5-8
2. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist,
discharge all the duties of your ministry. 2Tim.4:5
3. For I am already being poured out like a drink offering,
and the time has come for my departure. 2Tim.4:6
4. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2Tim.4:7
5. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge,
will award to me on that day—
and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2Tim.4:8
F. Conclusion: Believe Jesus? What does it mean? Gal.2:20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
May the Lord bless you and keep you always! Written September 10, 2019.
