A. Gifts that benefit all require constant training!
1. Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales.
2. Rather train yourself to be godly! 1Tim.4:7
3. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things. 1Tim.4:8
4. Holding promise for both the present life and the life to come! 1Tim.4:8
B. Unfeigned faith is the gift of God! 2Tim.1:5-8
1. When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother
Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. 2Tim.1:5
2. Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God which is in thee
by the putting on of my hands. 2Tim.1:6
3. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2Tim.1:7
4. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner:
but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God. 2Tim.1:8
C. Gifts that build up the church on earth!
1. There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 1 Cor.12:4
2. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man for the common good. 1Cor.12:7
3. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom;
to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 1Cor.12:8
4. To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 1Cor.12:9
5. To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits;
to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 1Cor.12:10
6. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit,
and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. 1Cor.12:11
D. Gifts that build up faith in the Lord! Eph.4:11-14
1. It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists,
and some to be pastors and teachers. Eph.4:11
2. To prepare God's people for works of service.
3. So that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of
the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Eph.4:12-13
4. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every
wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Eph.4:14
E. The gift of the knowing the truth in the Bible! 1 Cor.2:12-16
1. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God,
that we may understand what God has freely given us. 1Cor.2:12
2. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit,
expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 1Cor.2:13
3. For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?
But we have the mind of Christ. 1Cor.2:16
F. These gifts only for people in church of Christ! 1 Peter 2:9-12
1. But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you
may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1Pet.2:9
2. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God;
once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1Pet.2:10
3. Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires,
which war against your soul. 1Pet.2:11
4. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong,
they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. 1Pet.2:12
G. We have all the truth we need! Jn.16:12-13, 2Pet.1:3
1. I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. Jn.16:12
2. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. … Jn.16:13
3. Apostle Peter confirmed it this way! 2 Peter 1:3
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him
who called us by his own glory and goodness.
