Talk about the soul but think the body! John 3:18-21
A. One forever classic example! Jn.3:1-6
1. Nicodemus asked: What must I do to enter the kingdom of God to have eternal life?
2. Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. Jn.3:1
3. He came to Jesus at night and said: Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God.
For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him. Jn.3:2
4. Jesus replied: I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. Jn.3:3
5. He asked: How can a man be born when he is old?
Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born! Jn.3:4
6. Jesus answered:
I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Jn.3:5
7. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. Jn.3:6
B. Jesus’ chosen disciples had the same problem! Ac.1:3-6
1. To whom he also showed himself alive after his passion by many proofs, appearing unto them by the space of forty days, and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of God: Ac.1:3
2. And, being assembled together with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which ye heard from me.: Ac.1:4
3. For John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence. Ac.1:5
They therefore, when they were come together, asked him, saying,
Lord, dost thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel? Ac.1:6
C. Eternal life is for the soul!
1. It is the soul who sins it will die! Eze.18:20
2. And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1Thes.5:23
3. The dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Ecc.12:7
4. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by the angels into Abraham's bosom: and the rich man also died, and was buried. Lk16:22
5. And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and see Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Lk.16:23
6. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne; and books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works. Rev.20:12
7. And the sea gave up the dead that were in it; and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. Rev.20:13
8. And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. Rev.20:14
D. He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life! Jn.6:51-56
1. I am the living bread which came down out of heaven: if any man eats of this bread, he shall live forever: yea and the bread which I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world. Jn.6:51
2. The Jews therefore strove one with another, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 6:52
3. Jesus therefore said unto them: Verily, verily, I say unto you.
Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye have not life in yourselves. Jn.6:53
4. He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life:
And I will raise him up at the last day. Jn.6:54
5. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.Jn.6:55
6. He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. Jn.6:56
7. And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it;
and he gave to the disciples, and said: Take, eat; this is my body. Matt/26:26
8. And he took a cup, and gave thanks, and gave to them, saying: Drink ye all of it; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many unto remission of sins. Matt.27:-28
E. Conclusion:
1. On the first day of the week we came together to break bread….Ac.20:7
This is how we eat the Lord’s flesh and drink his blood!
Jesus said these kinds of people have eternal life! Jesus will raise them up at the end of the world!
2. Those who accepted his message were baptized, about 3000 were added to their number that day.Ac.2:41
3. They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship,
to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Ac.2:42
4. All the people baptized into church of Christ for remission of sins their lives are hidden with Christ in God!
5. All the people not in church of Christ would be in hell to suffer forever! Jn.3:18-21
