1. Scriptures as recorded:
As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain
men not to teach false doctrines any longer nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies.
These promote controversies rather than God's work-- which is by faith
*** Attention to the word translated as endless genealogies! Dictionary # 1076
This word meaning only has 8 lines in the dictionary!
The first line says a genealogy! NIV, ASV, KJV and Word for Word all took this one!
When I read down to line 5 and 6 I found: According to the doctrine of the gnostics: 1Tim.1:4!
My listeners to be the judge I have no further comment!
B. What does gnostic mean?
1. It means I believe only my personal understanding of the scriptures!
2. In my world it is this!
Read the verse then pray to the Holy Spirit to tell me what it means!
3. Holy rollers love this one! No others can tell them different understanding!
4. To all not in church of Christ I ask: Is the name of your church in the Bible!
In recent years I found a few answer with a “No”!
5. As normal human reasoning, they will change their church name into church of Christ!
To end the endless argument!
You have to insist that they change their church name then talk further!
To continue without first change their church name makes all fools!
6. Apostle Paul classified these as false teachings!
7. I have yet to find one such person know simple scriptures correctly!
8. These promote controversies rather than God's work-- which is by faith.
9. These people do not know what is by faith mean!
C. Apostle Peter declared:
1. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness
through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2Pet.1:3
2. We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our
Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 2Pet.1:16
3. We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven
when we were with him on the sacred mountain. 2Pet.1:18
4. We have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to
a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 2Pet.1:19
5. Above all, you must understand that
no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. 2Pet.1:20
6. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man,
but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2Pet.1:21
7. Paul writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters.
His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort,
as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. 2Pet.3:16
8. Jesus’ promise had been fulfilled: John 16:12-13
I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.
He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
9. Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried
away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. 2Pet.3:17
10. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. 2Pet.3:18
D. Conclusions:
1. All talks about believe Jesus is salvation of the soul!
2. God’s way to save souls is through the church of Christ! Heb.10:19-20
3. Insist they change their church name into church of Christ first!
4. Without the name church of Christ all talks are none sense! Do not be a fool with them!
