Do not treat prophecies with contempt.

Do not treat prophecies with contempt. 1 Thes.5:20

A. Matt 23:13

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!  You shut

the kingdom of heaven in men's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will

you let those enter who are trying to.

   1. One who treats prophecies with contempt becomes a hypocrite himself!

   2. Because of his hypocrisy, he end up condemned and in the meantime he

      hindered others to become saved!

B. Luke 6:46-49

"Why do you call me, `Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?

I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts

   them into practice.

He is like a man building a house, he dug down deep and laid the foundation

on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not

shake it, because it was well built.

But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like

a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the

torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."

   1. One who calls Jesus, “Lord, Lord,” but do not do what he said.

This calling Jesus, “Lord, Lord,” becomes an added burden for him!

   2. When struck by problems or sickness, he fall away from faith!

He ended up worse than before he calls Jesus, ‘Lord, Lord’!

   3. Apostle Peter put it this way in 2 Peter 2:20-22

If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and

Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are

worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been

better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have

known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that passed

on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: "A dog returns to its vomit,"

and, "A pig that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud."

C. These people become a tool of the devil!  John 8:31-59

   1. The Jews having believed Jesus and treat his teaching with contempt!

   2. They continue living as slaves to sin!

   3. This was what Jesus said about them! John 8:44

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your

father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to

the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his

native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

D. James 1:22-25

Don’t just listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man

who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away

and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently

into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not

forgetting what he has heard, but doing it-- he will be blessed in what he

does. But he that look into the perfect law, the (law) of liberty, and (so)

continue, being not a hearer that forget but a doer that work, this man

shall be blessed in his doing.

Blessings is obtained at the time of practicing God’s word!

When one treats God’s words with contempt, he missed to received blessings!

E. Conclusion: Proverb 3:1-2

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for

they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.

You like to live well and long?  Practice what had preached to you!
