Subject: The wedding clothes in a wedding banquet.
Scriptures for this study: Matt.22:18-141.
The king said to his servants:
The wedding banquet is ready, but those invited did not deserve to come.
Go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.
So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find,
both good and bad, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
2. But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was
not wearing wedding clothes.
He said: Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?
The man was speechless. Matt.22:11-12
3. The king told the attendants: Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside,
into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 22:13
For many are invited, but few are chosen. Matt.22:14
Other scriptures to help understand these:
1. Ro 13:12-14à The night is nearly over; the day is almost here.
So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness,
not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.
Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ,
and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
2. Eph. 4:22-24à That ye put away, as concerning your former manner of life,
he old man, that wax corrupt after the lusts of deceit; and that ye be renewed
in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, that after God hath been
created in righteousness and holiness of truth.
3. Ro. 6:11-13à Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin,
but alive unto God in Christ Jesus. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body,
that ye should obey the lusts thereof:
neither present your members unto sin (as) instruments of unrighteousness;
but present yourselves unto God, as alive from the dead, and your members (as)
instruments of righteousness unto God.
4. Col 3:9-10à Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its
practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge
in the image of its Creator.
5. 2 Peter 1:5-11
1:5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith courage;
and to courage, knowledge;
1:6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance;
and to perseverance, godliness;
1:7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
1:8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure,
they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your
knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1:9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten
that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
1:10 Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure.
For if you do these things, you will never fall,
1:11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ.
May the Lord bless you and keep you always! Sept., 10, 2010.
