How serious can you be to have eternal life?

A. The story: Lk.9:51-62-->

As they went on the way, a certain man said unto him, I will follow you wherever you go.

Jesus said to him, the foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven have nests;

but the Son of Man has not where to lay his head. He said to another, follow me.

But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury father.

But he said to him, leave the dead to bury their own dead;

but you go publish abroad the kingdom of God.

Another said, I will follow you, Lord;

but first suffer me to bid farewell to them that are at my house.

But Jesus said to him, no man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back,

is fit for the kingdom of God.

B. Peter was willing to die with Jesus! (Mk.14:30-31)

Jesus said, “Tonight before the rooster crows twice you will deny me three times.

Peter said emphatically, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you.”

And all the others said the same.

We learned from the history, Peter requested that he be nailed to the cross up side down!

He did not just died with Jesus, he died to tell others the story of Jesus!

So how serious can you be?

C. How serious was Paul in helping others to have eternal life?

1. At Lystra he healed a man who was born cripple. (Ac.14:8)

2. The crowd saw what Paul had done, was determine to make him one of their gods. (Acts 14:9-17)

3. Paul had a hard time talk them out of making him a god! Ac.14:18

4. What happened when there came Jews from Antioch and Iconium:

and persuaded the crowd, they stoned Paul, and dragged him out of the city,

supposing that he was dead. (Acts 14:19)

***Last Sunday we ended here,

but today we will continue and see how serious was Paul in helping others to have eternal life!

5. As the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and entered into the city:

and on the morrow he went to Derbe. Ac.14:20

6. Please continue to see what had happened in verses 21-23!

When they had preached the gospel to that city, and had made many disciples,

they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and to Antioch, confirming the souls of the disciples,

exhorting them to continue the faith, and that through many tribulations

we must enter into the kingdom of God.

D. Conclusion: 1. Lk.16:16-->

… from that time the gospel of the kingdom of God is preached,

and every man enter violently into it.

violently 971-->to get a share in the kingdom of God by his utmost earnestness and effort.

2. Mk.8:34--> Jesus called unto him the multitude with his disciples, and said unto them,

if any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross, and follow me.

Deny”533 means to lose sight of oneself and one’s own interests.

Take up the cross means willing to go through many tribulations!

We know what “follow Jesus mean”!

May the Lord bless you and keep you! (July 26, 2007)
