Subject: Fornication and adultery what is involved?
Scriptures for this study:
A. Matt.19:3 There came unto him Pharisees, trying him, and saying,
Is it lawful (for a man) to put away his wife for every cause?
19:4-5 And he answered and said,
Have ye not read, that he who made (them) from the beginning made them male and female,
and said, For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife;
and the two shall become one flesh?
19:6-8 So that they are no more two, but one flesh.
What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder. …
19:9 And I say unto you,
Whosoever shall put away his wife, except for fornication,
and shall marry another, commits adultery:
and he that married her when she is put away commits adultery.
a. It involves putting what God has joined together asunder!
b. It involves the destruction of a covenant between the husband and wife!
c. It may cause more adultery and fornication!
B. Heb.13:4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure,
for God will judge the adulterer and fornicator.
a. It is a dishonor to a marriage!
b. It stained the marriage bed!c. It is a sin which God will judge!
C. Please link up the following scriptures for this study!
1. Gal.5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are (these):
fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness…
2. James 1:13-15 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God;
for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempt no man:
But each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.
Then the lust, when it hath conceived, bear sin:
and the sin, when it is full grown, bring forth death.
3. Col.3:5 Put to death therefore your members which are upon the earth:
fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness,…
4. Ro.8:12-13 So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh:
for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die;
but if by the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
5. 1 Cor.6:18 Flee from fornication.
All other sins a man commits are outside his body,
but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.
D. Conclusion of this study: 1 Thes.4:3-8
4:3 It is God's will that you should be sanctified:
that you abstain from fornication.
4:4-6 that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable,
not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God;
and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him.
The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you.
4:7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.
4:8 Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God,
who gives you his Holy Spirit.
May the Lord bless you and keep you always. Written on May 26, 2011.
