Why believe Jesus?
Scriptures for this study: Acts 3:19
A. The scripture as recorded:
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out,
that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.
1. When Apostle Peter addressed to unbelievers with the word “repent”
it is after they had confessed their faith in Jesus! Acts 2:36-38
2. Peter also told us how unbelievers in the world may turn to God!
Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins
and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit! Acts 2:38
3. And here comes the why believe Jesus?
So that your sins maybe wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. Acts 3:19
Thank God, it is times of refreshing, not a moment of refreshing!
Yes, I know, nowadays, even a moment of refreshing is hard to come by!
4. What is that times of refreshing mean?
It means live a life in righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit!
5. Praise the Lord this is what the churches of Christ all about! Ro.14:17-19
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking,
but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,
because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.
Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.
6. Make no mistake about this one!
That times of refreshing may come from the Lord!
Now please do not wonder why man seek that times of refreshing thousands of years,
but have yet to find it!
Man has come up lots of isms, religions, philosophies, political systems…
trying to obtain that times of refreshing!
B. Jesus promise: Matt.11:28-29
1. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matt.11:28-29
2. Why believe Jesus?
Believe Jesus is Lord, repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ
for the forgiveness of your sins and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit
and let the Lord adds you into the churches of Christ,
that times of refreshing will come to you from the Lord!
C. Believe Jesus so that we may have an indestructible body to live in heaven!
1. Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God,
an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling,
because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked.
For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened,
because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling,
so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 2 Cor.5:1-4
2. Apostle Paul put up this much to for it, how much would you put up for it?
What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord,
for whose sake I have lost all things.
I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him,
not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ--
the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.
I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings,
becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect,
but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do:
Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. Phil.3:8-13
