Jesus on a blessed life on earth! Matt.5:3-12
1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matt.5:3
a. This is about conscious of spiritual needs, not material needs!
b. These are the people who may look for church or take interest in the truth of the Bible.
c. The real blessed ones ended up in a church of Christ. Theirs is the kingdom of heaven!
d. The not so lucky ones ended up in a man made church or religious organization!
2. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matt.5:4
a. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. 2 Cor.7:10
b. With God’s help godly sorrow makes man recognize his sin.
Willing to suffer the consequences then move on and be wiser not to make the same mistake!
c. Worldly sorrow is sorry that he get caught not because the sin he had committed!
Utilize this got caught experience to improve my method of doing evil! This brings death!
d. Sometimes we mourn for ourselves. Ro.7:24-25
Sometimes we mourn for kinfolks and friends! Ro.9:1-3
e. Jesus said, these people will be comforted!
3. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Matt.5:5.
a. As Jesus said: Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls. Matt.11:29
b. Not conflict with do not love the world and things in the world, for the world and its things will all be destroyed! 2 Peter 2:10-12
c. Humble and lowly spirited people enjoy their portion of blessings better and happier!
Here also denote a share of the heavenly kingdom!
4. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Matt.5:6
a. This is a promise from the Lord Jesus!
Yes, they will be satisfied! Each will give an account for what he or she had done! Ro.14:12
b. This is the most important characteristic of the children of God on earth!
My brothers, don’t be anxious! We trust, the Lord can live up to his promise!
c. This means in the meantime we continue to do righteousness as long as we shall live on earth!
5. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matt.5:7
a. We all need mercy from God!
b. We all need mercy from others sometimes in life!
c. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him,
how can the love of God be in him? 1 Jn.3:17
6. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Matt.5:8
If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1Jn.1:6-7
Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure. 1Jn.3:3
7. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Matt.5:9
All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:
that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them.
And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 2 Cor.5:18-19
8. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven,
for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Matt.5:10-12
The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that what it does is evil. Jn.7:7
2 Cor.2:16 -->To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life.
Who is equal to such a task?
