Something about the church of Christ!
30 years ago a young campus preacher in Stony Brook University tried to recruit a study who came to the church of Christ!
I asked the student to make an appointment to study the Bible with me.
I went and sat down study with him. He said: So you are church of church of Christ preacher.
I said: Yes. He said: I know all about the church of Christ.
I gave him a sheet of p paper and asked that he wrote down something about the church of Christ.
He can write down a thing!
He said: Why don’t you tell me? I said: You know all about the church of Christ.
You write down something about the church of Christ.
He said: It is better that you just tell me! I said: No.
After the 3rd time. I said to him. You lied did you! You are a liar! He picked up his Bible and ran!
Suddenly, I feel that I owe the world to preach a sermon on something about the church of Christ!
First of all, may it be known to all, no one on this earth know all about the church of Christ!
1. Peter 4:11 is the one rule in preaching and serving in the church of Christ!
If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God.
If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.
to him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.a. We demand chapter and verse in the New Testament Bible for things we teach.
We demand also chapter and verse for things others preach.
b. We seek to know and present to the world the one original meaning of the scriptures intended 2000 years ago when the scriptures were written!
c. We believe when we accomplished this one, The Lord’s prayer in John 17:20-23 will be fulfilled!Jesus prayed that all his believers on earth be perfectly united in one church of Christ!
2. With item #1 in mind we preach salvation of the soul according to Mark 16:16 follow with example set forth by Apostle Peter in Acts 2:36-38.
This is the one and only plan of salvation for the soul. Sinners must do to be saved in the Lord!Believe, repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit!
3. The Lord added the saved into the church. Acts 2:47
Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
According to Matt.16:18, Ro.12:5, 16:16, Eph.5:23-30. The name of this church is church of Christ.
4. According to these following scriptures the baptized people are to worship God this way!
a. He.10:25--> Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;
but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
b. Acts 2:42--> And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
c. Acts 20:7--> And upon the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread,
Paul discoursed with them, intending to depart on the morrow; and prolonged his speech until midnight.
d. 1 Cor.16:1-2 Now about the collection for God's people: Do what I told the Galatians churches to do.On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up,
so that when I come no collections will have to be made.
e. Heb.13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
5..Titus 3:10-11 Warn a denomination person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him.
You may be sure that such a man is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.
6. One who says he is a believer but not do what says in the New Testament Bible is a child of the devil.
7. Church of Christ is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Ro 14:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
a. Saved believers are children of God in the household of the Father. 1 Tim.3:15
b. Saved believers are citizen of the kingdom of God. Eph.2:19
c. Saved believers are members of the body of Christ, the church of Christ. Ro.12:5, Eph.5:23-30.
