Believe and is baptized what does it mean?
A. Jesus said: Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. Mark 16:16
It simply means whoever believes and is baptized will be saved!
B. What does this mean? Apostle Paul put it this way! Romans 6:3-4
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death;
that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life!
It means we are dead, buried, raised up to walk in newness of life!
C. Apostle Peter put it this way. 1 Peter 2:24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness;
by his wounds you have been healed.
And this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--
not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God.
It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 1 Pet 3:21
D. Apostle Paul further explained it this way. Romans 8:9-14
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you,
he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you.
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die:
but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
This is what it means:
1. We are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit.
2. The body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness.
3. We are debtors not to the flesh to live after the flesh.
4. We put to death the deeds of the body.
5. Living a life led by the Spirit of God as children of God.
E. Believe and is baptized what does it mean? Col.3:8-17
1. It means we are to rid ourselves of all types of anger and dirty language!
But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these:
anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Col.3:8
2. It means our old self with its practices have taken off! Col 3:9
Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices.
3. It means we are a new man with a newness of life! Col.3:10
And have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
4. It is a circumcision of the heart, we have become chosen people of God! Col.2:11
In whom ye were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands,
in the putting off of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ.
F. As chosen people of God we must equip ourselves with these virtues in life on earth!
1. Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved,
clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Col.3:12
2. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Col.3:13
3. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Col.3:14
4. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.
And be thankful. Col. 3:15
5. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom,
and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. Col.3:16
6. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him. Col.3:17
