Ac1.1

The mission and beginning of the church.(Ac.1:1-8)

A. The content of the book of Luke. (Ac.1:1-2)

The content of the book of Luke was all about that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.

B. Jesus was dead, buried and raised back to life. (Ac.1:3)

1. After his resurrection, he showed himself to the apostles and

gave man convincing proofs that he was alive.

2. He appeared to them over a period of 40 days and spoke about the kingdom of God. (Ac.1:3)

Notes: The kingdom of God, the kingdom of heaven is the church.   3. One of those convincing proofs was on one occasion he was eating with them. (Ac.1:4)

C. Why did Jesus command them to wait in Jerusalem? (Ac.1:4)

1. They have to know the truth before they can preach the truth!Jesus said to his disciples in Jn.16:12-13 à I have much more to  say to you, more than you can now bear. But when the Spirit of     truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak  on his own; he speaks only what he hears,….

2. Preaching is to bring glory to Christ by taking what is Christ  and making it known to others.

3. They must preach words from the mouth of God! (1 Pe.4:11)      Today we can do this by taking what is recorded in the New       Testament and make it known to the people in the world.

4. Anyone preach things that is different from what the Bible says will be eternally condemned! (Gal.1:8)D. Jesus will baptize them with the Holy Spirit. (Ac.1:5)

1. Jesus will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire.Matt.3:11)     Ac 1:5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will   be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

4. What is baptized with the Holy Spirit mean and for what?

a. From Jn.16:12-14 we know it was for them to know all the truth.

b. From Ac.2:2-3 we know exactly what is baptized with the Holy   spirit mean!

Ac 2:2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came   from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.    Ac 2:3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated   and came to rest on each of them.

Ac 2:4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to  speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Ac 2:8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own        native language?

We hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!Jewish believers never got over this one ideaà

1. Ac.1:6 So when they met together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?"

2. Luke 24:21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel.

The Lord’s idea is thisà

1. Ac 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

2. Mk 16:15-16 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

3. Ac 1:3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

His disciples were not in the same tune with him!
