This is the fate and function of the law man has to accept and obey!
A. Jesus said:
1. Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Matt.5:17
2. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen,
will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Matt.5:18
3. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven,
but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called
great in the kingdom of heaven. Matt.5:19
4. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law,
you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. Matt.5:20
B. Jesus also said:
1. I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist;
yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. Matt.11:11
2. For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. Matt.11:13
C. Apostle Paul explained it this way: Heb.3:5-6
1. Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be said in the future.
2. But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house.
And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.
3. Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. Romans 10:4
4. Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed.
So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith.
Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law. Gal.3:23-25
D. Jesus himself explained it this way:
1. "You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, `Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.'
But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment.
Again, anyone who says to his brother, `Raca,' is answerable to the Sanhedrin.
But anyone who says, `You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell. Matt.5:21-22
2. "You have heard that it was said, `Do not commit adultery.'
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matt.5:27-28
3. "You have heard that it was said, `Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.'
But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
4. Clearly, here we have two set of teachings, man must accept and obey one of these!
Since we believe Jesus is Lord and Christ, we have to accept and obey Jesus’ teaching!
E. Just as man accepted these fate in life!
1. Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, Heb.9:27
2. Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out--
those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. John 5:28-29
3. After dead of the body this is what will happen! Ecc.12;7
And the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Ecc.12:7
4. The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side.
The rich man also died and was buried.
In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.
So he called to him, `Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue,
because I am in agony in this fire. Luke 16:22-24
Conclusion: I surely hope we all end up be like this thief on the cross!
1. Then he said: Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.
Jesus answered him: I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise. Luke 23:42-43
2. Beware: Now that we are in the New Testament time our way to paradise and his way is different!
