Friday Bible Study. December 5, 2014.
Subject: Natural process to become important.
A. Desire of the person!
1. Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task.
a. Set his heart on being an elder.
b. He desires a noble task. 1 Tim.3:1
2. He make time to posses these qualities in his life! 1 Tim.3:2-7
a. Be blameless.
b. Be the husband of one wife.
c. Vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach. 1 Tim.3:1-2
d. Not give to wine, no striker, nor greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 3:3
e. He rule well his own house.
f. Having his children in subjection with all gravity. 3:4
3. Elders are the ones who rule the church! 1 Tim.3:5
4. Elders can not be new convert. 1 Tim.3:6
5. Elders must have good report of them that are outside the church. 1 Tim.3:7
6. Elders must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as if has been taught, so that they can encourage
others by sound teaching and refute those who oppose it. Titus 1:9
7. He is the head of his wife. Eph.5:23
B. Go to a place there is no church of Christ, establish a church of Christ and be the minister!
1. For this cause left I thee in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are wanting, and
ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed you. Titus 1:5
2. If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. 1:6
3. Be sure he is the head of his wife. Eph.5:23
4. Be sure he knows the scripture better than his wife! 1 Cor.14:35
C. In an existing church this is how to rise up above others!
1. Bear more fruits than others! John 15:1-8
Discuss what says in the Bible on the street, in the market places, hold Bible study at home….
2. Purge yourself from all filths of the world and become a man posses all the qualities which an elder
is to posses described in 1 Tim.3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9, 2 Tim.2:20-21
3. Be a man serving others every where you go!
I guarantee you, genuine believers in the church will all come beg you to be one of their elders!
4. Anyone do it other ways, be ready to spend eternity with the devil in hell!
D. Jesus taught it this way!
1. A dispute arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. Luke 22:24
2. Jesus said to them: The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority
over them call themselves Benefactors. Luke 22:25
3. But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the
one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves?
Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. Luke 22:26-27
E. Jesus set the forever example for all generation to follow!
1. Jesus poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel
that was wrapped around him. John 15:5
2. Jesus said: You call me `Teacher' and `Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am. Jn.13:13
Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet.
3. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. John 13:15
4. Matthew 20:25-28
Jesus called them together and said: You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and
their high officials exercise authority over them. Matt.20:25
Mt 20:26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
Mt 20:27-28 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave--
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
